President-elect post goes to Bakke
February 19, 1999
Gary Bakke of Bakke Norman S.C., New Richmond, has won the race for
State Bar president-elect with 2,883 votes. His opponent, Kathleen Grant
of Wausau, received 2,810 votes. Bakke's term begins July 1 when Leonard
Loeb, Milwaukee, succeeds Susan Steingass as State Bar president.
"I am enthused about what needs to be
done and what we can do. I have several ideas that I'm anxious to try
out," says Bakke. "One of my main goals is to get those who have not
previously been active in, or happy with, the Bar involved. The campaign
was much more pleasant and educational that I expected, so everything is
starting out on a nice note."
Thomas Hornig of Brennan, Steil, Basting &
MacDougall S.C., Janesville, was elected State Bar treasurer, defeating
Konrad Tuchscherer, Wausau, 2,863 votes to 2,410 votes.
Ruth Bachman of the Ashland County Attorneys Office
defeated Paul Bucher, Waukesha, and Gregory Maurice Wesley, Milwaukee,
for a seat on the Judicial Council.
