To ensure that State Bar members can be fully informed and provide
feedback on multidisciplinary practice (MDP) issues, the State Bar is
offering local and specialty bars and law-related groups an edited
videotape of the Assembly of Members MDP discussion held on May 16 at
the Annual Convention. The tape runs approximately 2 hours and 13
minutes. State Bar
governors welcome feedback from their constituents, or members can
send comments to the MDP
Commission.
"The board of governors will debate MDP at its first 2002-03 meeting
later this week," says State Bar President Pat Ballman. "We plan to vote
on MDP at our November meeting, so there is still time for members to
share their thoughts with the commission and district governors. The MDP
Commission issued its Interim
Report in May. I urge members who have not yet reviewed the report
to do so."
The MDP Commission, created as a result of a May 2001 Board of
Governors resolution is charged, in part, with determining whether
Wisconsin should authorize lawyers to practice law in firms with other
professionals. As of May, the MDP Commission passed motions relating to
MDP, unauthorized practice of law, and ancillary business practices.
