James R. Cauley, Minnesota 1980, was appointed assistant general counsel of General Signal Corp., Necedah. He continues as general counsel and secretary for the Best Power unit of General Signal. His office is located in Waukesha.

Timothy E. Kronquist, DePaul 1995, has joined Cook & Franke S.C., Milwaukee, practicing in real estate transactions and development. Jason R. Handal, Marquette 1995, also has joined the firm, practicing in estate planning, marital property, real estate and general corporate and business law.

Frank Thomas Crivello, Marquette 1973, law review, has established a mediation, arbitration and litigation support practice in the offices of Piano, Harris & Tishberg. He also will focus on consultation and litigation assistance to other law firms in civil and criminal cases. He previously was a Milwaukee County circuit court judge and a faculty member of the National Judicial College.

Justice Louis J. Ceci, Wisconsin Supreme Court (retired), recently completed all statutory requirements imposed by the Florida Supreme Court for certification as a mediator in civil matters. Justice Ceci maintains his mediation office at 611 N. Broadway St., Suite 304, Milwaukee.

Erica M. Eisinger, U.W. 1982 magna cum laude, has been named director of lawyering skills and associate professor at Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, Mich.

The Equal Justice Coalition Inc. has appointed the following officers: president - John S. Skilton, Foley & Lardner, Madison; vice-president - Herbert C. Liebmann III, Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry S.C., Green Bay; secretary - Nathan A. Fishbach, Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C., Milwaukee; and treasurer - Michelle A. Behnke, CUNA Mutual Group, Madison. The coalition's executive council is co-chaired by former Chief Justice Nathan S. Heffernan, Madison, and Maureen A. McGinnity, Foley & Lardner, Milwaukee. The coalition's mission is to preserve and promote equal justice for all residents of Wisconsin. It is engaged in a statewide fund-raising campaign to raise $5 million over the next three years. Campaign revenue will fund direct civil legal representation for low-income Wisconsin residents.

Lee J. Fehr, North Dakota 1989, has opened Lee J. Fehr Law Office in Onalaska. The firm handles insurance defense, subrogation and personal injury matters and various other civil litigation cases.

Two May 1997 U.W. graduates have joined Foley & Lardner's Madison office as associates. David A. Meisinger joins the litigation department and Michelle M. Umberger joins the business law department.

Jim Fullin, Ohio State 1972, was awarded a certificate from the Marquette University Graduate Program in Dispute Resolution. Fullin has a solo practice in law and mediation in Madison and is one of two lawyers to have completed this 15-credit program.

Julius W. Gernes, William Mitchell 1988, has become a shareholder and partner with Spence, Ricke & Thurmer P.A., St. Paul, Minn. He practices in insurance defense and railroad litigation in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Carl W. Gilmore, U.W. 1994, was named to the editorial board of the ABA's Family Law Section Family Advocate magazine. Gilmore's book chapter, "Deconstructing Leases: A method and critique of lease valuation in divorce proceedings," appeared in the 1997 Wiley Family Law Update, published in June. Gilmore is completing a book titled, Gitlin on Parentage, which will outline the law of parentage in Illinois. He is an associate with Gitlin & Gitlin, a law firm focusing on matrimonial law in Woodstock, Ill.

Martin J. Greenberg, Marquette 1971, presented a paper, "What the Future Holds for the European Transfer System: The American Experience," at the Fifth I.A.S.L. Congress in Nafplio, Greece, in July. He also participated in a conference in Dallas, Texas, in August as sponsored by the International Association of Assembly Managers on Arena Sports Lease Update. He will teach in October at Anglia Law School, Chelmsford, England, as part of his visiting professorship at the law school. In December he will participate in a government-sponsored conference on sports endorsements, licensing and sponsorship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Ben Griffiths, U.W. 1992, has become an associate university legal counsel with the U.W.-Madison Office of Administrative Legal Services. His responsibilities will focus on trademark, purchasing, contract review, tax, and public records and open meetings issues.

K. Scott Wagner, Marquette 1989 cum laude, has become a shareholder of Hale & Lein S.C., Milwaukee. He practices in commercial, securities and antitrust litigation. David M. Hiring and Firing in Wisconsin, by Bradden C. Backer, Kim E. Patterson and Robert K. Sholl, published by State Bar CLE Books, received the 1997 Award of Professional Excellence in Publications from the Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA). This award is ACLEA's top honor in its annual, national competition.

John R. Jakubiak, Marquette 1996, has been commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General Corp of the U.S. Army Reserve. He is an associate in the Milwaukee law firm of Lindner & Marsack S.C., practicing employment and labor law and worker's compensation.

Elisabeth Townsend Bridge, Nebraska 1981, and John E. Munger, John Marshall 1984, have become shareholders of Jansson & Shupe Ltd., Racine. The firm also has changed its name to Jansson, Shupe, Bridge & Munger Ltd., and continues its practice specializing in intellectual property law and litigation, including patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition matters.

Julia L. Jensen, U.W. 1993, has joined Tishman Speyer Properties Deutschland GmbH, New York City, a construction development and commercial property management company as legal counsel. She is on the law faculty of Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany; she teaches one section of an introductory course on U.S. law.

John G. Jartz, Washington University 1978, has become senior vice president - general counsel, business development and corporate secretary of The Quaker Oats Co., Chicago, Ill. He previously was vice president - general counsel and business development.

Mark D. Kelly, Marquette 1981, has joined Nilles & Nilles S.C., Milwaukee, focusing on intellectual property law, including patent litigation and prosecution, and unfair import trade practices. He formerly was an attorney-advisor with the U.S. International Trade Commission, Washington, D.C., and a patent examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Arlington, Va.

Kevin J. O'Connor, assistant attorney general in the Wisconsin attorney general's office, was presented with the Marvin Award at the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) summer meeting. The award recognizes O'Connor's outstanding leadership, expertise and achievement as chair of the Multistate Antitrust Task Force of NAAG, and his work leading numerous multistate enforcement actions nationally.

C. Thomas Sylke, U.W. 1985, an intellectual property partner in Foley & Lardner's Milwaukee office, has been elected to the board of directors of the Blood Center Research Foundation Inc., the fund-raising arm of the Blood Center of Southeastern Wisconsin Inc. The foundation raises money for basic research in transfusion medicine and blood-related diseases.

Deborah Kilbury Tobin, William Mitchell 1987, has joined the Equal Justice Coalition Inc. as executive director. Tobin continues to serve as pro bono coordinator for the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Janice K. Wexler, U.W. 1979, has joined the Madison law firm of Krekeler & Scheffer S.C., focusing in family and juvenile law. Wexler also is a U.W. Law School lecturer for the legal research and writing program.

Dennis M. Wesolowksi, Marquette 1979, formerly vice president and assistant general counsel of Tyco Toys Inc., has been appointed vice president and general counsel of Fisher-Price Inc., a subsidiary of Mattel Inc., following the merger of Tyco Toys with Mattel. He will be relocating to East Aurora, N.Y. He original joined Tyco Toys Inc. in 1989 as corporate counsel.

Caliendo, Marquette 1989, practices primarily in commercial real estate transactions and financing in the firm's Milwaukee office; and Marcus S. Lokensgard, U.W. 1993, has been appointed a member of WATL's Program & Seminar Committee for the New Lawyers Section.
