New Hires, Promotions, Partners
Brian C. Anderson, U.W. 1992, has joined
Hausmann-McNally S.C. practicing plaintiff personal injury law in the
firm's new Madison office at 22 N. Carroll St.
Carl K. Buesing, U.W. 1976, has joined Hopp, Powell,
Raftery & Bauer, Sheboygan, concentrating in family law, business
and probate litigation, and general civil practice. Buesing previously
served as district attorney of Langlade County.
Hon. James T. Carmichael, U.W.
1987, has become managing partner of Lyon & Lyon's new Washington,
D.C. office. Carmichael previously was administrative patent judge with
the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. |
Marc S. Cwik, U.W. 1999, has joined Pyatt &
Silvestri Chtd., Las Vegas, Nev., as an associate. The firm concentrates
in general insurance defense litigation. Cwik's practice also will
include family law.
Frank M. Doherty, North Dakota 1994, LLM George
Washington 1999, has joined Hale, Skemp, Hanson, Skemp & Sleik, La
Crosse, as an associate. Doherty previously was with the U.S. Navy JAG
Corps.
Dan J. Gendreau, U.W. 1993, has been named partner
in Rider, Bennett, Egan & Arundel LLP, Minneapolis, Minn. Gendreau
practices in the litigation department in insurance defense and coverage
litigation, products liability, commercial litigation, and appellate
practice. He previously was in private practice in Milwaukee.
Christine Liu McLaughlin, Marquette 1992, has joined
the labor and employment practice group, and Mark E. O'Neill, Drake
1998, has joined the real estate practice group as associates in the
Milwaukee office of Godfrey & Kahn S.C.
John P. Higgins, DePaul 1977, has been named the
governmental affairs director for the Racine Board of Realtors Inc. and
the Kenosha Realtors Association Inc. Higgins previously was counsel in
the Milwaukee legal office of Employers Insurance of Wausau. In addition
to doing trial work, he acted as legal counsel to the company's
representative to the Wisconsin Workers' Compensation Advisory
Council.
William R. Lamb, Willamette 1989, has joined Weld,
Riley, Prenn & Ricci S.C., Eau Claire, as an associate. Previously
associated with Doar, Drill & Skow S.C., Lamb practices primarily in
litigation.
Katie Browe Murphy, Marquette 1994, has joined the
National Automatic Merchandising Association as midwest manager and
counsel, working out of the Chicago headquarters. She previously was at
PricewaterhouseCoopers in Budapest, Hungary.
John J. O'Neill, Marquette 1982, has joined
Crivello, Carlson, Mentkowski & Steeves S.C., Milwaukee, where he
will continue his insurance defense practice. He previously was a
partner at O'Neill, Schimmel, Quirk & Carroll S.C.
Bryan L. Pautsch, University of Tulsa 1985, has
become a shareholder in Kolb Lauwasser & Co. S.C., Milwaukee.
Formerly a tax manager with the firm, Pautsch is a member of the
American, Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and Oklahoma bar associations and the
American and Wisconsin institutes of CPAs.
David G. Hanson, U.W. 1992, Benjamin G.
Lombard, Cornell 1992, Allen C. Schlinsog Jr.,
John Marshall 1991 magna cum laude, and Michael R.
Miller, University of Chicago 1993 with honors, have become
shareholders in Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren, Norris & Rieselbach
S.C. Hanson and Schlinsog are in the litigation department, and Lombard
is in the business organizations department, all in the Milwaukee
office. Miller is a member of the business organizations department in
the Denver office. Jill D. Hamill, U.W. 1996 cum laude,
has joined the firm as an associate in the labor and employment
department in the Madison office.
Claire Ann Resop, U.W. 1993, has become an associate
of Murphy & Desmond S.C., Madison, practicing primarily in
creditor's rights, bankruptcy, collection, and commercial and civil
litigation.
Gordon R. Shea, Marquette 1998, has become the law
clerk for the Dodge County Circuit Court.
Mark Schneider, Marquette 1976, has been named head
of Rider, Bennett, Egan & Arundel LLP's business department.
Schneider is a labor and employment lawyer representing management in
all phases of labor law and labor representations before the NLRB and in
state and federal courts.
Chad R. Taylor, U.W. 1996, has joined the Milwaukee
and Madison offices of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as an associate,
concentrating in government relations and lobbying. He also practices in
administrative, regulatory, and campaign finance law. Taylor formerly
served as chief legal counsel and senior policy director for the speaker
of the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Catherine A. Thomas, Marquette 1985, has been
promoted to managing attorney of Travelers Insurance Company's Staff
Counsel Office, Brookfield. Thomas previously was a staff attorney
handling worker's compensation cases.
Edmond J. Vaklyes Jr., Marquette 1978, has joined
Congdon, Ward & Walden S.C., Waukesha, continuing in real estate,
tax, guardianship, probate, estate, and Title XIX planning. He is a
member and past president of the Waukesha County Bar Association's
probate division.
James McCambridge, U.W. 1984, and Phillip D.
Ferris, Marquette 1983, have become Wisconsin assistant
attorneys general, working in the civil litigation unit. McCambridge
formerly worked in Boston in civil litigation, primarily tort law, with
a concentration in medical malpractice. Ferris previously worked for
Alliant Energy.
Appointments, Elections
John C. Albert, U.W. 1974, has been appointed Dane
County Circuit Court judge by Gov. Thompson. Albert takes the seat
vacated by retiring Judge P. Charles Jones.
The Ashland-Bayfield County Bar Association has elected the following

president - Michael J. Gableman, Ashland; and
secretary/treasurer - Joseph C. Crawford, La
Pointe.
The Brown County Bar Association has elected these officers:

Dennis Cook, Marquette 1971, has been appointed
Milwaukee County Judicial Court commissioner. Cook formerly was with the
Milwaukee County District Attorney's office and most recently practiced
civil litigation in private practice.
Hon. Russell A. Eisenberg, Marquette 1961, has been
reappointed to another 14-year term as bankruptcy judge of the U.S.
Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
James A. Fedderson, U.W. 1972,
has been named chair of the board of directors at Heritage Mutual
Insurance Company, Sheboygan. He has served on the board since 1986.

Awards, Degrees, Honors
Katherine Charlton, Vermont 1983, a partner in the
Milwaukee/Madison
firm of Shneidman Myers, has received the Volunteer Lawyer of the Year
Award
from the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
Charlton worked
to expand the resources available to the ACLU in the Milwaukee legal
community.
She has served as a member of the ACLU Lawyers Committee since 1986,
participates
in fundraising for the organization, and served one term on the
Milwaukee Chapter's
Board of Directors.
George
K. Steil Sr., U.W. 1950, has been named chair of the board of directors
at Westland Savings Bank in Tomah. He has served on the board since
1987.
Steil is the president of Brennan, Steil, Basting, and McDougall S.C.,
Janesville. He is a past president of the U.W. Board of Regents, the
State Bar of Wisconsin, and the American Bar Association. He also is
a life fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a fellow of the
American
College of Trusts and Estates. |
Michael F. Hupy, Marquette 1972, Milwaukee, has been
certified as a civil trial specialist by the National Board of Trial
Advocates.
Laurie J. Levin, U.W. 1981, of counsel in the
Orlando, Fla., office of Baker & Hostetler LLP and a member of the
firm's national health care team, was presented the Best Healthcare
Attorney in Orlando award by Florida Medical Business. Nominees are
evaluated in leadership, healthcare market savvy, quality health care,
and cost efficiency. Levin also was elected to a second term as
president of the Seminole County unit of the American Cancer
Society.
Cynthia K. Thurston, William Mitchell 1995 cum
laude, was named a 1999 "Rising Star" by her peers in the legal

Group LLC, Mequon. The company will provide services to

ownership groups, facility operators, and entertainment groups. Leib,
