P.J. Boylan, Marquette 1982, has been appointed
senior legal counsel for technology development, responsible for legal

Gene Schaeffer Jr., U.W. 1992 with honors, has

Timothy L. Vocke, U.W. 1973, was presiding judge in
the 17th annual High School Mock Trial Championships in Columbia, S.C.

Retirements
Judge William Eich, U.W. 1963, retires from the
court Oct. 1 after 35 years of service, 26 as a judge. Eich served as
chief justice of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals from 1989-98, longer
than any other chief judge. |
Judge Edwin Dahlberg, U.W. 1949, has retired from
the bench after 41 years of service in Rock County.
Awards, Degrees, Honors
Judge Thomas H. Barland, U.W. 1956, received the award
of judicial excellence presented by the ABA judicial division National
Conference of State Trial Judges. He was recognized for his "outstanding
performance and achievement, exemplary conduct, excellence of character,
and extraordinary service to the bench, bar, and community."
Scott Hassett, Rutgers 1980, a shareholder at Lawton
& Cates S.C., Madison, has been named chair of the board of
directors of the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin.
James W. McNeilly Jr., U.W. 1981, has become a
member of the Commercial Law League of America, an organization of
bankruptcy and commercial law professionals.

Financial Institution's Task Force on Financial Competitiveness 2005.
The task force will analyze the needs of Wisconsin's financial
instutions and make recommendations on policy initiatives to enhance the
state's regulatory and economic environment. Friedman is a partner with
Quarles & Brady LLP, Milwaukee, and practices in financial
institutions law. |

Kimberly A. Hurtado, Marquette 1988, has been
appointed to the board of governors of the American Bar Association
forum on the construction industry. Hurtado previously served as chair
of the contract negotiations and administration division and is coauthor
and editor of Partnering in Construction: A Practical Guide to
Project Success, a book published by the forum.

1978, has been elected vice chair of the Judicial Council. She is an
