The following State Bar Board of Governors' actions were taken at the April 3 meeting in Eau Claire.

• ADOPTED the Commission on Violence and the Justice System Report without funding as amended to provide that any legislation other than handgun legislation must come back to the board for approval.
  
  
• ADOPTED the Commission on the Judiciary as a Co-Equal Branch of Government Report with changes discussed during the board debate.
  
  
• ELECTED Marna Tess-Mattner, Milwaukee, chairperson of the board for fiscal year 1998.
  
  
• APPOINTED the Board Planning Committee of Tom Hornig (chair), John DeStefanis, Dean Dietrich, Bob Goepel, Howard Goldberg, Bob Hagness, Maria Lazar, Mark Pennow, Dave Saichek and Steve Sorenson (until there is a new president-elect). The committee will develop a report to the Strategic Planning Task Force within the next few months. Cheryl Daniels and Jim Friedman have been added to the task force, and John Macy now is reporter and a task force member.
  
  
• APPROVED a field representative position to provide general outreach from the State Bar and to sell LOIS and State Bar products.
  
  
• AGREED to implement a long-term investment strategy.
  
  
• INVITED newly elected governors to attend the June board meeting.

Note: To have a matter placed on the advance agenda for the June 24-25 board meeting, notify Stephen L. Smay at the State Bar Center and submit appropriate materials at least two weeks prior to the meeting.
