    Douglas Bauman, U.W. 1998, has joined the firm of Piehler & Strande, Wausau, as an associate. He was formerly a judicial staff attorney in Dane County.
    Steven M. Cain, Marquette 1999, has joined Houseman & Feind LLP, Grafton, as an associate. He will concentrate in municipal law, real estate, personal injury, and general business law and litigation.

    James J. Casey Jr., Dayton 1988, has been promoted to team leader in the office of Research and Sponsored Programs at Northwestern University.

    EichorstShawn Eichorst , Marquette 1995, has been named director of athletics at U.W.-Whitewater. Eichorst was previously an associate attorney with Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee.

    Lori A. Eidemanis, U.W. 1984, has joined the Pima County attorney's office in Tucson, Ariz., as a deputy county attorney in the violent crimes unit. Eidemanis formerly was an ADA in Outagamie County.

    Kathryn A. Finerty, Marquette 1992, has been promoted to senior division and compliance counsel with Universal Foods Corp. She will administer the company's code of conduct and serve as counsel for the Red Star Yeast and Dehydrated Products divisions.

    Joseph E. Gumina, William Mitchell 1990, has become a shareholder in Wessels & Pautsch P.C., St. Charles, Ill. He defends private and public employers in employment discrimination litigation, unfair labor practice charges, OSHA citations, labor arbitration matters, and wage and hour claims.

    Paul M. Hattenhauer, Minnesota 1991, has become a partner of Culp Elliott & Carpenter PLLC, Charlotte, N.C.

    Roberta A. Heckes, Marquette 1999, joined the Ritger Law Office, Random Lake, as an associate in general practice law. She recently was appointed vice chair of the commercial transportation committee in the ABA's Tort and Insurance Practice Section.

    Carla J. Hughey, U.W. 1999, has joined Davis, Birnbaum, Marcou, Seymour & Colgan LLP, La Crosse, as an associate in general practice concentrating in employment and labor law, civil law, and criminal trial work.

    Tara K. Kleinhans, U.W. 1998, has joined the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, Madison, as a member of WASB's staff counsel, providing legal assistance to Wisconsin's public school employers in collective bargaining and labor relations.

    ThiedeAnn E. Thiede , U.W. 1993, has become a partner in Nowlan & Mouat, Janesville. She practices in family law, insurance defense, personal injury, and civil litigation.

    Steven V. Schlitz, U.W. 1993, has become a shareholder in Garvey, Anderson, Johnson, Gabler & Geraci S.C., Eau Claire, continuing his practice in insurance defense and civil litigation.

    Elizabeth J. Smith, William Mitchell 1999, has joined Wachowski & Johnson S.C., Eau Claire, practicing criminal defense and family law.

    Jennifer A. Stuber, Valparaiso 1998, has joined of the Hogan Law Office, Rhinelander, as an associate.

    Susan Van Schaik, Marquette 1996, has joined Dubin & Balistreri Ltd., Milwaukee, concentrating in personal injury and family law.

    Apppointments, Elections

    Michael G. Grzeca, Marquette 1974, was appointed Brown County circuit court judge for Branch II by Gov. Thompson. He has closed his law practice of 25 years.

    John Hawley, U.W. 1982 cum laude, has become president of the Board of Control of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, the governing organization for high school athletics. Hawley is president of the Random Lake Board of Education and an attorney with Darrow, Dietrich & Hawley S.C.

    Major John A. Keck, U.W. 1957, USMCR (Ret.), has been appointed to the board of directors of the recently formed Wisconsin Veterans War Memorial Inc.

    The Columbia County Bar Association has elected these officers: president - Ann C. Krummel, Portage; vice president - David R. Knappen, Baraboo; and secretary/treasurer - Paul A. Johnson, Lodi.

    The Dane County Bar Association has elected these officers: president - Mary Beth Keppel; president-elect - James L. Fullin; secretary - Leslie B. Griffith; and treasurer - Valerie Bailey Rihn, all of Madison.

    The Eau Claire County Bar Association has elected these officers: president - Timothy J. Adler; president-elect - Michael A. Schumacher; secretary - Michael L. Laufenberg; and treasurer - Michael J. Happe, all of Eau Claire.

    The Lafayette County Bar Association has elected the following officers: president - Ralph E. Farrell, Blanchardville; secretary - Scott A. Berndtson, Galena, Ill.; and treasurer - Theresa L. Roetter, Monroe.

    TechmeierWillard P. Techmeier , Marquette 1970, of Techmeier & Van Grunsven S.C., Milwaukee, was elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the State Bar Litigation Section.

    SteinbergThe Hon. Richard J. Steinberg , Marquette 1958, has been elected president of the Wisconsin Municipal Judges Association for a two-year term. He has served as municipal judge for the city of Brookfield for 25 years.

    The League of Wisconsin Municipalities-Municipal Attorneys has elected these officers: president - Grant F. Langley, Milwaukee; and secretary - James G. Godlewski, Merrill.

    The Milwaukee Young Lawyers Association has elected these officers: president - Karene S. Marchan; president-elect - Nathaniel Cade Jr.; secretary - Bradley I. Dallet; and treasurer - Patricia A. Hintz, all of Milwaukee.
