    Two attorneys are among the newly elected board members of the ACLU of Wisconsin. Jay Kronenwetter, U.W. 2005, operates Kronenwetter Law Firm, Wausau, and practices in areas including criminal defense, political election law, and litigation.     Gov. Scott Walker has appointed the Hon. Mark A. Mangerson, Valparaiso 1972, to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. Mangerson previously was on the Oneida County Circuit Court. Gov.     Retired Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Thomas R. Cooper, Marquette 1973, received the St. Andrew’s Society of Milwaukee Founders Award in January.

    Kristine Havlik, Virginia 1999, has been named a 2012 Women Putting Their Stamp on Metro Milwaukee honoree for her volunteer work, including helping to start Wisconsin’s Wills for Heroes program. She is senior counsel at Foley & Lardner LLP, Milwaukee.

    Robert Procter, Boston Univ. 1999, was named Associate of the Year by the Wisconsin Builders Association for contributions including authoring of the WBA Home Construction and Remodeling Contracts and spending hundreds of hours answering member inquiries on the WBA legal hotline. He is with Axley Brynelson LLP, Madison.

    Pro Bono, Public Service

    Authors to receive Wisconsin Lawyer award for health-care reform article

    Michael E.   SkindrudTodd M.   ClearyMichael E. Skindrud, U.W. 1975, and Todd M. Cleary, Cornell 1999, are the 2011 recipients of the Hon. Charles Dunn Author Award, presented annually by the State Bar Communications Committee.

    Skindrud and Cleary are being honored for their article "Health-Care Reform: What You Should Know" (Dec. 2011). In selecting the article, the Dunn award subcommittee said, "This is a well-written article, comprehensive in its treatment of the landmark 2010 Healthcare Reform Law. The authors provide lawyers with the information needed to understand the effects of the law as they advise clients."

    Skindrud is a shareholder in Godfrey & Kahn S.C., Madison, where he chairs the firm's health-care practice group and represents hospital systems, physicians, and health-care insurers statewide. Cleary is a shareholder in Godfrey & Kahn S.C. and a member of its employee benefits practice group. He works out of the firm's Madison, Milwaukee, and Waukesha offices.

    The Dunn award, named after Wisconsin's first chief justice, recognizes writing excellence in Wisconsin Lawyer articles. The award will be presented at the Member Recognition and Networking Celebration, on June 14, 5:30 – 8 p.m., in conjunction with the State Bar Annual Meeting and PINNACLE® Institutes (June 11-15) at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells.

    Wendy   Alison NoraAttorney Wendy Alison Nora received a certificate of commendation for "Beyond Robo-Signing: Mortgage Foreclosure Defense Basics" (April 2011), which explains robo-signing – unreliable mortgage-processing methods creating fraudulent foreclosure documents – and offers important advice to lawyers practicing this type of law. She owns Access Legal Services in Madison and Minneapolis and has practiced foreclosure defense and financial reorganization since 1985.

    Ronald   SklanskyAttorney Ronald Sklansky received a certificate of commendation for "Changing the Rules on Rulemaking" (Aug. 2011), providing a clear and comprehensive explanation of the significant changes that have been made to an important process, the procedure for the promulgation of administrative rules. He recently retired as a senior staff attorney for the Wisconsin Legislative Council, Madison.

    Russell   WareAttorney Russell M. Ware received a certificate of commendation for the well-written "Negotiating in the ‘Red Zone'" (Feb. 2011). The article provides an engaging mixture of practical and theoretical information useful to lawyers. Ware is a shareholder in SmithAmundsen LLC, Milwaukee. He is a trial lawyer and devotes a substantial portion of his practice to the defense of lawyers' professional liability claims.
