    Dave FenlonDave Fenlon, U.W. 2002 cum laude, has joined Ruder Ware LLSC’s recently opened Green Bay office and focuses on estate and business planning matters, including the preparation of wills and trusts, financial and health care powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents; estate settlement and trust administration matters; purchases and sale of businesses and real estate properties; and business and real estate contracts. Fenlon is also a Certified Financial Planner®.

    Lisa M. Gingerich, California Western 1994 (Dean’s Scholar), has joined Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee, as a partner with the transactional practice group and focuses on healthcare law. She counsels clients on transactions, strategic opportunities, and implementation and corporate compliance. Gingerich previously was a shareholder at a large Wisconsin-based law firm and began her career at Legal Action of Wisconsin.

    Andrew C. Hanson, Lewis & Clark 2001, has joined the environment, energy & resources practice of Perkins Coie in the Madison office. He was a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Environment and Natural Resources Division in Washington, D.C., where he was recognized by the DOJ and the EPA for his work on high-impact environmental cases under the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. More recently, he was a senior attorney with Alliant Energy Corporate Services.

    Erica H. Hayden, Marquette 2010, has become contracts manager for the Milwaukee County Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, assisting with drafting, negotiating, and executing agreements; ensuring legal compliance; developing standardized agreements; and providing contractual, financial, and statutory analysis. She previously was a research and policy analyst in the Milwaukee County Office of the Comptroller.

    David C. KeatingDavid C. Keating, Widener Univ. 1994, has joined Lindner & Marsack S.C., Milwaukee, a management-side labor and employment law firm. Keating has experience advising clients in the long-term care industry and previously was chief legal officer and secretary for Fortis Management Group LLC and vice president and general counsel for Extendicare Health Services Inc.

    Steven A. Marshall, Univ. of Buffalo 2010 cum laude, has joined Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. in its Milwaukee office. He represents clients in the development of real estate, including acquisitions, sales, entity formation, financing syndication, leasing, and construction matters. Marshall also assists clients using the low-income housing tax credit to develop affordable housing and the historic tax credit to rehabilitate historic structures, as well as transactions using new market tax credits on behalf of community development entities.

    Charles W. Pollard IVCharles W. Pollard IV, Marquette 2013, has been promoted to managing partner at Clair Law Offices S.C., Delavan. His practice focuses on real estate; zoning, planning, and land use law; civil litigation, including lake rights and property line disputes; commercial litigation; and corporate law.

    John HintzSamantha C. SkenandoreJohn Hintz, Marquette 1994, and Samantha C. Skenandore, Denver 2005, have joined Quarles & Brady LLP as of counsel attorneys.

    Hintz is with the health and life sciences practice group in the Milwaukee office and focuses his practice on health care business transactions and representing health care entities. He is an adjunct professor at Marquette University Law School, teaching courses in managed health care.

    Skenandore is with the real estate practice group in the Madison office and focuses on federal Indian law and tribal law, advising tribal and corporate clients in tribal governance, governmental affairs, corporate transactions, real estate, labor issues, and litigation. A member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, Skenandore previously served as a tribal attorney for the Ho-Chunk Nation Department of Justice.

    Stephanie Hanold Anacker, Marquette 2005, and Amanda C. Risch, Minnesota 2017, have joined Sorrentino Burkert Risch LLC, Brookfield, as associates. Anacker focuses on civil litigation. Risch focuses on real estate, business, and litigation.

    Ryan Van De HeyRyan Van De Hey, U.W. 2016 cum laude, has joined the estate planning, estate & trust administration practice group as an associate in the Madison office of Godfrey & Kahn SC. His areas of practice include wills and trusts, business succession planning, estate tax gifting strategies, fiduciary income taxation, estates and trust administration, and probate administration.

    Braziel is with the litigation section. Previously, he worked with the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s office in the Eau Claire County Trial Division.

    Minser is with the divorce and family law section. She previously practiced divorce and family law in western Wisconsin near the Twin Cities. She also was an assistant state public defender in St. Paul, Minn., representing clients facing felony and misdemeanor criminal charges, and a Monroe County assistant district attorney.

    Strutz is with the labor and employment section, working primarily in the area of school law and advising and representing numerous school districts throughout the state. Previously, he was with Eckert – Kost LLP in Rhinelander.

    Milwaukee Municipal Court Earns a 2018 Salute to Local Government Award

    Among recipients of the Wisconsin Policy Forum’s 2018 Salute to Local Government awards is the Milwaukee Municipal Court. The Milwaukee Municipal Court began holding Warrant Withdrawal Wednesdays in 2016, “promising defendants they would not be arrested if they came to court,” where “judges would remove the barriers of warrants and suspensions while providing time to pay the judgment or connect with community service options.” Two events have also been held at Greater New Birth Church.

    Three Milwaukee Municipal Court judges, the Hon. Phillip Chavez, U.W. 1998, the Hon. Valarie Hill, Akron 1991, and the Hon. Derek Mosley, Marquette 1995, were recognized as Wisconsin Legal Innovators in 2017 by the State Bar of Wisconsin, for creating Warrant Withdrawal Wednesdays.

    The Salute to Local Government awards recognize outstanding innovation in local governments and school districts throughout Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Policy Forum was created in January 2018 with the merger of the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance and the Public Policy Forum.

    Appointments, Elections

    Christine Bremer Muggli, Loyola Chicago 1978, has been elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and the Wisconsin Chapter of the ABOTA. She is the founder of Bremer & Trollop Law Offices S.C., which concentrates in protecting the rights of accident victims and has offices in Wausau, Stevens Point, Marshfield, Minocqua, and Antigo.

    Roy B. Evans, U.W. 1979, has been elected chair of the City of Milwaukee Board of Review. He maintains a solo practice in Milwaukee, focusing in business development and contract law.

    Eric HobbsDavid FroilandEric Hobbs, Cornell 1985, and David Froiland, Indiana Univ. Bloomington 1997, have been named chairs of two international and national practice groups at Ogletree Deakins. Both are shareholders in the Milwaukee office. Hobbs is cochair of the international Workplace Safety and Health practice group. Froiland is cochair of the firm’s Reduction in Force/Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (RIF/WARN) practice group.

    Hobbs has a nationwide labor and employment law practice, which includes the representation of employers in OSHA and MSHA enforcement and litigation, employment counseling and litigation, and traditional labor matters.

    Froiland represents employers before federal and state courts and administrative agencies throughout the country in all areas of employment law, with particular focus on traditional labor law, employment discrimination cases, including ADEA collective action claims, and reductions in force.

    John Podvin, U.W. 1991, has been elected cochair of the board of the North Texas Chapter of ACAMS (the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists). He is a partner with the Dallas office of Shapiro Bieging Barber Otteson LLP and works with banking and financial services clients in combating money laundering and on cybersecurity and data breach issues.

    Brian C. Randall, Marquette 1999, has been named chair of the food and beverage industry team at Davis & Kuelthau s.c., Milwaukee, replacing Lisa Kleiner Wood, Marquette 1997, who continues as a member of the team. Randall also is a member of the municipal law and real estate practices, focusing on land use, zoning, and tax increment financing. He represents food and beverage clients seeking alcohol beverage and food establishment licenses, as well as businesses with other types of licenses, handling applications, license renewals, quasi-judicial hearings, and regulatory compliance. Wood, also a member of the corporate and real estate teams and cochair of the real estate practice, focuses on commercial real estate matters.

    The Wisconsin Supreme Court has appointed the Hon. Maureen D. Boyle, U.W. 1994, Barron County Circuit Court, as chief judge of the Tenth Judicial Administrative District, replacing the Hon. Scott R. Needham, U.W. 1978, St. Croix County Circuit Court; and the Hon. William E. Hanrahan, Hamline 1988, Dane County Circuit Court, as chief judge of the Fifth Judicial Administrative District, replacing the Hon. James P. Daley, Marquette 1981, Rock County Circuit Court. The Hon. Jason A. Rossell, U.W. 2001, Kenosha County Circuit Court, has been reappointed chief judge of the Second Judicial Administrative District. The Hon. Gregory B. Huber, U.W. 1981, Marathon County Circuit Court, has been reappointed chief judge of the Ninth Judicial Administrative District. The Hon. James A. Morrison, Minnesota 1973, Marinette County Circuit Court, has been reappointed chief judge of the Eighth Judicial Administrative District. The Hon. Lisa S. Neubauer, Chicago 1987, Wisconsin Court of Appeals District II, has been reappointed chief judge of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals.

    Awards, Degrees, Honors

    James J. BolgertJames J. Bolgert, U.W. 1979, owner of Bolgert Mediation, Sheboygan, has been accepted by the American Arbitration Association to its national roster of arbitrators. He mediates civil and divorce matters in eastern Wisconsin.

    Christie A. Linskens Christie, Marquette 1987 cum laude, received a Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from U.W.-Milwaukee. She is a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee, Guardian ad Litem Division, and an adjunct professor at Marquette University Law School.

    Michael J. GonringMichael J. Gonring, Marquette 1982, director of the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee and formerly a partner at Quarles & Brady LLP, is the 2018 recipient of the John H. Pickering Award of Achievement, presented by the American Bar Association Senior Lawyers Division. The award honors the life and accomplishments of John H. Pickering, co-founder of the Washington, D.C., law firm then known as Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering (now WilmerHale), who was involved in a variety of pro bono activities and law-related societal issues affecting the elderly. It recognizes lawyers or judges who demonstrate outstanding legal ability and have compiled a distinguished record of service to the profession and their communities, resulting in significant contributions to improving access to justice for all.

    Gonring spent 28 years as a litigation partner and six as an associate with Quarles & Brady LLP. Recently, he recruited lawyers to assist Milwaukee’s immigrant community to respond to the increased immigration enforcement efforts and deportations. As pro bono coordinator, he led various programs involving legal representation to victims of domestic violence, death row inmates who appealed convictions, and asylum seekers. Following his retirement, Gonring continued to represent victims in domestic abuse court and volunteered at legal clinics. He started a legal clinic for undocumented individuals at the Mexican Consulate in Milwaukee. He was appointed director of the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee last year.

    In 2014, Gonring was recognized as a Wisconsin Legal Innovator by the State Bar of Wisconsin. With funds donated to honor his career-long pro bono service, he approached Marquette University Law School to start a project, which led to a mobile legal clinic. Housed in a transformed bus, the clinic travels Milwaukee County, reaching those who can’t afford time away from work to get legal help.

    Anniversaries, Retirements

    Timothy P. Crawford, Marquette 1972, has retired and his staff and office space have become part of Schober & Mitchell SC, with offices in Racine, New Berlin, and Oconomowoc.

    Gardiner Koch Weisberg & Wrona is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The firm has offices in Lake Geneva and in Chicago, Naperville, and Tinley Park, Ill., and its members include Thomas G. Gardiner, Northwestern 1981, and Max Wessels, U.W. 2016.

    Siegler Law Office S.C. has closed. David Siegler, U.W. 1980, is still the Ashland County Family Court Commissioner.
