    Michael F. Bartzen, Marquette 2008 magna cum laude, has been promoted to vice president – legal, contracts, and international trade compliance at Derco, a Lockheed Martin company, in Milwaukee.

    Nathan Froemming, U.W. 2020, has joined Rupp, Anderson, Squires & Waldspurger P.A., Minneapolis, as an associate and focuses on municipal law and school law.

    Kelly DoddFive attorneys have joined Karp & Iancu S.C. Kelly M. Dodd, Marquette 2000, a partner, assists in the management of the firm’s Milwaukee branch and leads the newly formed family law appellate practice group. Dodd previously practiced family law at Stafford Rosenbaum LLP and Whyte Hirschboeck.

    Cecilia (Yatong) JuCecilia (Yatong) Ju, George Washington 2015, has joined Kowalski Family Law in the Madison office and focuses on divorce, child custody and placement, child support, property division, and postjudgment modification. She is a native Mandarin speaker and previously worked in immigration law for five years.

    Bridget MurphyMorgan TurnerBridget Murphy, Marquette 2020, and Morgan Turner, Marquette 2007, have joined Moertl, Wilkins & Campbell S.C., Milwaukee, as associates and focus on lifetime and estate planning, elder law, probate and trust administration, and guardianship matters.

    Six attorneys recently joined von Briesen & Roper s.c. in locations throughout Wisconsin. Three Eau Claire-based lawyers are with the government law group and practice from the Madison office: Mindy K. Dale, Indiana Univ. McKinney 1987 magna cum laude, focuses on labor relations, labor and employment, municipal law, and school law. She represents public- and private-sector employers throughout northwest and west-central Wisconsin. Lindsey S.M. Minser, U.W. 2012, focuses on school law and municipal law. David A. Richie, Marquette 2018 cum laude, focuses on labor relations, labor and employment, municipal law, and school law. He also is a member of the labor and employment section, representing private and governmental entities.

    Milwaukee office: Kelly L. Krause, Marquette 2020 cum laude, is a member of the business practice group and the bankruptcy and creditors’ rights section and focuses on transactional matters, corporate law, federal bankruptcy law, and Wisconsin creditor-debtor law. Sumeeta A. Krishnaney, Marquette 2011, is a member of the trusts and estates section and concentrates on estate planning, including special needs planning and guardianships, charitable estate planning, and business succession planning.

    Mmeli Obi, Loyola Chicago 2019 cum laude, is a member of the litigation and risk management practice group in the Neenah and Green Bay offices.

    David WerleyDavid Werley, Mitchell Hamline 2020, has joined Wanezek, Jaekels, Daul & Babcock SC, Green Bay, and practices in family law and business litigation.

    Mergers, Relocations, New Offices

    Andrus Intellectual Property Law has moved its Milwaukee office to the 22nd floor of the BMO Tower, 790 N. Water Street, Suite 2200.

    Pamela W. Flores, Loyola 1995, has opened Flores Legal Group LLC, a practice focused on estate planning. The firm serves clients in person and virtually throughout Wisconsin.

    Christopher S. Krimmer, U.W. 1997, and Kimberly N. Ripp, U.W. 1995, have opened Forward Legal Services, 440 Science Drive, Suite 201, Madison. The firm focuses on all aspects of divorce and family law.

    Authors, Speakers

    Henry J. Plum, Marquette 1972, is author of the new publication Minor Guardianships of the Person: Wisconsin Children’s Court Practice and Procedure (State Bar of Wis. 2020). Plum operates Henry Plum Law Office, New Berlin.

    Kathleen Pakes, University of Louisville 1995, authored the recently revised Wisconsin Criminal Defense Manual (State Bar of Wis. 7th ed. 2020).     Awards, Degrees, Honors

    Louis B. Butler Jr.Attorney and former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Louis B. Butler Jr., U.W. 1977, has attained the designation of Distinguished Faculty by the National Judicial College, an honor reserved for individuals who have contributed 15 years or more of volunteer teaching service to the college. In the more than half-century that the College has existed, fewer than 150 individuals have taught for 15 or more years. Butler was the first African American to serve on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He also worked as a criminal defense attorney, an appellate attorney, a state court judge, and a city judge. Before retiring from private practice with DeWitt LLP, Butler focused on litigation, construction litigation, environmental issues, and appellate matters.

    Cassandra Suchomel, William Mitchell 2014, has become licensed in Wisconsin. She practices with Atticus Family Law, with offices in Saint Paul, Minneapolis, Stillwater, and Duluth, Minn., and focuses on divorce, custody, child support, adoption, and related legal matters.

    Retirements

    Thomas H. Sutter, U.W. 1977, is retiring from the practice of law as of Dec. 31, 2020. He has operated the Sutter Law Firm, Appleton, since 1997.
