If you’ve attended the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Annual Meeting & Conference or the Wisconsin Solo & Small Firm Conference, you might have noticed a booth with a large backdrop that says, “the voice of Wisconsin Lawyers.” The backdrop highlights State Bar publications, including this magazine, InsideTrack, a twice monthly e-publication, and WisLawNOW.com, a platform that aggregates blog posts members are writing and publishing on their own websites.

Joe ForwardJoe Forward, Saint Louis Univ. School of Law 2010, is communications director for the State Bar of Wisconsin, Madison. He can be reached by email or by phone at (608) 250-6161.

The backdrop also highlights “Bottom Up”, the State Bar’s first-ever podcast, which launched in 2022 and features 24 episodes to date. While Bottom Up targets a young lawyer audience, lawyers in all stages of their careers can benefit from the advice and wisdom each discussion reveals.

Starting in 2025, the State Bar is adding more voices to the mix. Amber Ault, who manages the State Bar’s Wisconsin Lawyers Assistance Program (WisLAP), will host “Listening to Lawyers,” an audio project that features Wisconsin lawyers sharing personal stories of unexpected challenges that have shaped them. These include stories of struggle, resilience, persistence, and creative and brave navigation through challenging territory while lawyering. Look for the first one this month.

Brent Hoeft, the State Bar’s practice management advisor (Practice 411™), will host “Practice Pulse,” another podcast for lawyers interested in practice management and technology – the business side of law practice especially for the many solo and small firm lawyers out there. Look for Brent’s first episode in February.

InsideTrack will become a weekly publication, appearing every Wednesday instead of every other Wednesday. The publication will be shorter but more frequent, covering transactional law, litigation and appellate law, regulatory and administrative law, lawyer profiles, court decisions, official orders, updates to local court rules, and news on State Bar-related events, programs, and services.

Together, these publications remain “the voice of Wisconsin lawyers,” with numerous ways to engage and consume legal and State Bar news wherever you are. Consider writing for Wisconsin Lawyer or InsideTrack. We are always recruiting authors to showcase expertise and help lawyers stay informed. If a larger feature seems daunting, start small. Write a shorter feature for InsideTrack or a shorter column in the magazine. We want to hear as many voices as possible! Is your firm blogging? Join WisLawNOW to amplify the blog. There is no cost to join. Together, you are the voices of Wisconsin lawyers. Make some noise!
