Scott T. Christian, Marquette 1990, and
Nancy B. Johnson, U.W. 1994, have become shareholders
with Brennan, Steil & Basting S.C. Christian, who practices
primarily out of the Delavan office, focuses on business and corporate
transactions, including business organization, acquisition, and sales;
contracts; employment; and employee benefits. Johnson, who practices
primarily out of the Janesville office, concentrates in general
business, collections, construction law, environmental law, and business
litigation.
Peggy Brever, Northwestern 1980, and Amanda
Layden, Marquette 1995, have joined the legal services
department of Children's Health System, Wauwatosa. Brever formerly was a
partner with Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee. Layden
formerly was a shareholder with von Briesen & Roper S.C.
J. Timothy Lovett, U.W. 1992, and Howard B.
Schoenfeld, U.W. 1971, have joined the Milwaukee office of
DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C. Lovett's background is in land use,
zoning and development, urban planning, and real estate development.
Schoenfeld's background is in complex litigation and related
transactional matters, in areas including real estate, construction, and
civil rights law.

Jay G. Durst, U.W. 1996, has been named a
shareholder at Boyle, Fredrickson, Newholm, Stein & Gratz S.C.,
Milwaukee, practicing in intellectual property law with a focus on
transactional patent and trademark issues, particularly
nanotechnology.
Michael D. Huitink, Georgetown 1999 cum laude, has
rejoined the litigation practice group of the Milwaukee office of
Godfrey & Kahn S.C. as an associate. He previously was with Miller,
Johnson, Snell & Cummiskey P.L.C., Grand Rapids, Mich.

with the intellectual property practice group. Patrick S.
Murphy, Marquette 2002, is with the financial institutions
practice group. Neena M. Patil, Michigan 1999, is with
the corporate and business and health care practice groups.
Jennifer Peterson Wolff, Marquette 2001, has joined
the corporate and business practice group in the Waukesha office as an
associate. Anthony F. Baer, U.W. 2002 cum laude,
Gregory J. Fumelle, Thomas M. Cooley 1986, and
Marcella S. Spoto, U.W. 2001, have joined Greenhalgh
& Krueger S.C. Baer concentrates on personal injury, worker's
compensation, and general litigation. Fumelle has extensive experience
in family law, bankruptcy, collections, commercial and civil litigation,
real estate, and debtor-creditor law. Spoto concentrates on personal
injury, commercial litigation, employment law, and general litigation.
Fumelle is with the firm's Madison office, and Baer and Spoto are
associates with the Baraboo office.

Joseph S. Goode, Syracuse 1994 cum laude, has joined
the litigation group in the Madison office of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek
S.C. He previously was a shareholder at Kravit, Gass, Hovel &
Leitner S.C., concentrating in general commercial and business
litigation, with an emphasis in shareholder disputes, business workouts,
dealership and franchise law, noncompete agreements, and patent
litigation.
Thomas R. Hefty, U.W. 1973, has become of counsel to
Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C., Milwaukee, practicing with the firm's
corporate, health care, government relations, and insurance practice
groups. He previously was chair and chief executive officer of Cobalt
Corp. and its subsidiary, Blue Cross Blue Shield United of
Wisconsin.

Chad W. Koplien, Marquette 1997 with distinction,
has joined McCarty, Curry, Wydeven, Peters & Haak, with offices in
the Fox cities region of Northeastern Wisconsin, focusing on complex
personal injury and commercial litigation involving product liability,
catastrophic accidents, and business disputes. He previously was with
Sigman, Janssen, Stack, Wenning, Sewall & Pitz, Appleton, and
Terschan, Steinle & Ness, Milwaukee.
Darrell C. Landry, Tulane 1997 with honors, has
joined the Milwaukee office of Otjen, Van Ert, Lieb & Weir S.C.,
concentrating primarily in medical malpractice defense.
Douglas Lemke, Marquette 1996 cum laude, has joined
First Magnus Financial Corp., a national mortgage banker headquartered
in Tucson, Ariz., as general counsel. He previously was in private
practice at Brown & Bain P.A., and Meissner Tierney Fisher &
Nichols S.C.
Michael P. McCormick, California Western 2000, has
joined Krekeler Strother S.C., Madison, as an associate, concentrating
in bankruptcy and collection matters.
Mary Rose Orcutt, Hamline 2002, has joined Geimer
Law Offices S.C., Green Bay, practicing in elder law.
Lisa F. Kaplan, Villanova 1994, and Mark A.
Vawter, U.W. 2002, have joined Murphy Desmond S.C., Lawyers,
Madison, as associates. Kaplan, who practices in commercial litigation
and insurance defense, formerly was with the Pittsburgh, Penn., office
of Jones, Day, Reaves & Pogue. Vawter practices in creditors'
rights, litigation, land use, real estate, construction, and municipal
law.

Andrew W. Schutte, Arizona 2000, has joined the New

William H. Thedinga, Harvard 1973, has joined Weld,
Riley, Prenn & Ricci S.C., Eau Claire, as a shareholder in the
business section.
Steven J. Thomas, Marquette 1992, has been promoted
to vice president - litigation/risk management at Kohl's Department
Stores Inc., Menomonee Falls.
Mergers, Relocations, New Associations
Bakke Norman S.C., with offices in New Richmond, Baldwin, Menomonie,
and Amery, and the Richardson Law Office, Spring Valley, have merged.
Robert J. Richardson, George Washington 1966, and
Jennifer A. O'Neill, William Mitchell 1994, will be the
resident attorneys at the new Bakke Norman S.C. office
in Spring Valley. Richardson concentrates in taxation, and farm, estate,
and business planning. O'Neill practices primarily in elder law, estate
planning, and residential real estate.

medical malpractice.
John B. Kiel, U.W. 1992, has opened the Law
Office of John B. Kiel LLC, 3500-252nd Ave., Salem, practicing
in labor and employment law with an emphasis on employee-side
public-sector labor relations law. Kiel remains of counsel to Shneidman,
Hawks & Ehlke S.C., where he previously was a shareholder.
Julie A. Lotto, Lewis & Clark 1998, has opened
Julie A. Lotto Attorney at Law, Madison, concentrating
exclusively on guardian ad litem appointments. She previously was with
Reynolds & Associates.
Howard N. Myers, U.W. 1964, is now mediating labor
and employment issues as well as other litigated matters. He previously
was a senior partner with Shneidman, Hawks & Ehlke S.C., Milwaukee
and Madison.
Kachinsky, Petit & Parker LLC will become
Petit, Parker & Dommershausen LLC, effective July
1, 2003. Tajara S. Dommershausen, Marquette 2001, will
become a partner and Leonard D. Kachinsky, U.W. 1978,
will be resigning from the firm.

Allen

Hassan A. Allen, U.W. 2002, has been appointed to
the board of directors of the Milwaukee Urban League. He is with the
Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP, concentrating in product
liability litigation.
James C. Babler, U.W. 1979, has been appointed judge
of Branch 1 of the Barron County Circuit Court. He previously was the
Barron County district attorney.
Steven C. Bahls, Northwestern 1979, has been
appointed president of Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill. He is
currently dean and professor of law at Capital University Law School,
Columbus, Ohio.
David L. Borowski, Marquette 1991, has been elected
judge of Branch 12 of the Milwaukee County Circuit Court and has been
assigned to children's court. He will take the bench on Aug. 1, 2003. He
currently is a Milwaukee municipal court commissioner.
The Clark County Bar Association has elected the following officers:
president - Bonnie Worden-Wachsmuth, Owen; vice
president - Linda Smith, Neillsville; secretary and
treasurer - Matthew K. Prior, Neillsville.
Joshua L. Gimbel, U.W. 1987 cum laude, has been
appointed to the board of directors of the Vince Lombardi Charitable
Funds, which raises money for cancer research, education, patient care,
and early detection for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center at St. Luke's
Medical Center, Milwaukee. Gimbel
is a partner and member of the land
and resources practice group with Michael Best & Friedrich LLP,
Milwaukee.
Paul R. Van Grunsven, Marquette 1986, has been
reappointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court as chair of the Office of
Lawyer Regulation's special preliminary review panel, which reviews
grievances and allegations of unprofessional conduct made against
participants within the lawyer regulation system. Van Grunsven is chair
of the health law section at Kasdorf, Lewis & Swietlik S.C.,
Milwaukee.
Retirements
Ronald L. Lampe, Marquette 1966, has retired from
Dempsey, Williamson, Lampe, Young, Kelly & Hertel LLP, Oshkosh. He
will continue practicing as a mediator and arbitrator.
Robert D. Repasky, Duquesne 1963, retired after 30
years in the Wisconsin Department of Justice and moved to Rockport,
Texas. Repasky was admitted to practice in Texas and the federal
district court for the Southern District of Texas. He practiced
primarily in bankruptcy and family law.
Awards, Degrees, Honors
Eric J. Boos, U.W. 2002, has been awarded a
Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at SoKoine University, Tanzania,
during the 2003-04 academic year. Boos, a professor at Edgewood College,
Madison, will teach classes on the relationship between land tenure laws
and agricultural practice and food security in developing nations.
The Hon. Jean DiMotto, Marquette 1984, received a
national Alumni Merit Award of Achievement from Marquette University.
DiMotto, a judge with the Milwaukee County Circuit Court, was honored
for integrating nursing with the law in her judicial, teaching, and
publishing work, and for her commitment as an oblate with the
Benedictine Women's Monastery, Madison.
Merrick R. Domnitz, Hamline 1977, has become a
fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, an honor extended only
by invitation to lawyers with a minimum of 15 years' trial experience
who have mastered the art of advocacy. Domnitz is a partner in Domnitz,
Mawicke & Goisman S.C., Milwaukee.
Michael Best & Friedrich LLP
has received the Trademark Insider Award from NameProtect. The firm was
listed as legal representative on 523 trademark applications submitted
to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in 2002, ranking it first
among Milwaukee firms in the number of submitted applications.

The Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association presented awards
for excellence to the following: U.S. district judge J. P.
Stadtmueller, Marquette 1967, Judge Robert W. Warren Public
Service Award; U.S. bankruptcy judge Russell E.
Eisenberg , Marquette 1961, the Judge Dale E. Ihlenfeldt
Bankruptcy Award; Franklyn M. Gimbel, Marquette 1960,
the Judge Myron L. Gordon Lifetime Achievement Award;Hannah C.
Dugan, U.W. 1987, and D. Michael Guerin,
Marquette 1974, the Founder's Award for their instrumental roles in the
formation of the EDWBA.
Nancy J. Sennett, Northwestern 1979, received a
Distinguished Alumni Award from U.W.-Madison. She was honored for
accomplishments including chairing the board of the Wisconsin Alumni
Association from 2000 to 2001. Sennett is the first female managing
partner at Foley & Lardner's Milwaukee office, where she
concentrates in securities litigation.

Three attorneys with the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady have
recently been honored for professional achievements. Lawrence J.
Jost, U.W. 1969, was inducted into the American College of
Mortgage Attorneys. He is a partner concentrating in commercial real
estate law with a special emphasis on representating developers,
lenders, and landlords. Michael J. Ostermeyer,
Vanderbilt 1989, was admitted to the American College of Real Estate
Lawyers. He is group coordinator for the real estate practice group and
focuses on development and conveyance of industrial, commercial, and
institutional realty. Rachel A. Schneider, U.W. 1995,
received the Individual Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award from the
State Bar. She has served as chair of the Milwaukee Bar Association's
Legal Services for the Indigent Committee for five years and recruits
attorneys from Quarles & Brady and other firms to take on pro bono
projects. She focuses on environmental law and litigation.

The Wisconsin Law Journal has honored 10 Wisconsin lawyers
as "leaders in the law" for their significant legal achievements,
leadership in advancing legal services to poor people, and important
contributions to Wisconsin's legal community and the community at large.
The Hon. Janine P. Geske, Marquette 1975, a former
Wisconsin Supreme Court justice, received the special recognition award
for achievements including serving as interim Milwaukee County Executive
and as interim dean at Marquette University Law School. Other honorees
