Philip K. Ankel, U.W. 1994 cum laude, has
joined the U.S. Department of Commerce General Counsel Office,
concentrating on export control, sanctions, and nonproliferation
matters. He previously was with Altheimer & Gray in its Kiev,
Ukraine and Bucharest, Romania offices.
Ann J. Flynn, U.W. 1993, has joined the U.W.
Foundation as director of development for the Law School. She previously
was a sole practitioner in the Madison area, concentrating in estate
planning.

Monika A. Hartl, U.W. 1995 magna cum laude, has

and part-time magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court, Western
District of Wisconsin, Madison. She previously was chief deputy clerk
for the Wisconsin Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal.
Richard R. Sindic, Temple 1978, has joined Weiss
Berzowski Brady LLP, Milwaukee and Delafield, as a partner in the
business and litigation practice groups. His practice includes
business/commercial litigation, real estate, construction law, and
employment law.
Joel Teitelbaum, Marquette 1996, LL.M. (health)
George Washington University 1998, has been promoted to associate
professor of health policy at George Washington University, Washington,
D.C., and has been appointed vice chair of the department of health
policy. He also was named to the board of directors of the Center for
the Study of Race and Bioethics, DePaul University College of Law.

Gordon R. Shea, Marquette 1998, has been named to
the judging panel of the 2004 Gershanov Essay Contest, sponsored by the
Holocaust Memorial Foundation of Illinois, which honors high school
students for writings about the holocaust. He is with McDonald &
McCabe, Chicago.

has opened an office in Milwaukee. Heading the office is Mark

director of the legal division of a Milwaukee executive search firm.
Michael Morris, Marquette 1989, has formed
Michael Morris Law LLC, morrislaw@charter.net,
concentrating on real estate and commercial transactions, public
finance, and Indian law issues.
The Wisconsin Equal Justice Fund has moved to 230 W. Wells St., 8th
Floor, Milwaukee. Correction: It was incorrectly
reported in April that John Ebbott had joined the Wisconsin Equal
Justice Fund.

Pro Bono, Public Service
Several members of the Dane County Bar Association provided

named a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is with

Richard Baumann, U.W. 1964, has been named a
Southern California "Super Lawyer" by Los Angeles Magazine. He
is with SulmeyerKupetz, Los Angeles.
Michael L. Eckert, U.W. 1975, has been named a
fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a partner with
Eckert, Kost & Vocke LLP, Rhinelander.
Peter N. Flessas, Marquette 1954, and son,
Peter A. Flessas, Thomas M. Cooley 1991, received the
2003 Excellence In Education Award from Milwaukee Public Schools
Superintendent William Andrekopoulos for speaking to fifth graders about
the hazards of cigarette smoking. They spoke at 50 elementary schools
throughout the district.
The senior Flessas also successfully initiated a program at the
Milwaukee County Courthouse, endorsed by both the Milwaukee County
Sheriff and Milwaukee County Executive, to allow attorneys to bypass
security screening monitors by exhibiting a Wisconsin State Bar card and
photograph ID.
Nathan A. Fishbach, Villanova 1977, has been elected
to membership in the American Law Institute. He is a shareholder with
Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C., Milwaukee.
Gordon A. Gregory, U.W. 1955, received the 2003
Distinguished Service Award from the State Bar of Michigan Labor and
Employment Law Section. Gregory, a founding partner of Gregory, Moore,
Jeakle, Heinen & Brooks P.C., Detroit, was honored for his work
representing unions and employees.
Liza Kessler, U.W. 1997, received
the AOL 2003 Integrity Award, recognizing significant achievements in
upholding trust, safety, and security within the company and for AOL
members.
Mary Lee Ratzel, Marquette 1981, has been named a
fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. She is a shareholder

The Wisconsin Supreme Court received a special merit
citation from the American Judicature Society. The court was recognized
for developing, in conjunction with the court's 150th anniversary in
2003, a traveling exhibit that highlighted famous cases dealing with
slavery, women's rights, industry, and religious freedom.
