Why is the legal profession often reduced to a punch line?

In February, the State Bar's Professionalism Committee and State Bar CLE sponsored a seminar, Lawyer Jokes and the Public Perception of the Legal Profession, to explore the causes and meaning of lawyer jokes. The accompanying article is based on conversations with each of the presenters a few weeks before the live seminar. The video seminar is scheduled for March 29.

Plan to attend the video seminar to gain real insights into what you can do to change those perceptions for the better. Attendees will receive one copy of Lowering the Bar: Lawyer Jokes and Legal Culture, by Marc Galanter.

The video seminar will be held in statewide locations on March 29. Tuition is $169 for State Bar members and $199 for nonmembers. The program has been submitted for up to 3.5 CLE credits; EPR credits will be sought, and the seminar will be submitted for Minnesota CLE credits. Register online for this State Bar CLE seminar at www.wisbar.org/cle or call (800) 728-7788.
