I am honored to have been chosen as a nominee for the position of State Bar representative to the Judicial Council. I have both State Bar and professional experience that I could use to be a productive member of the Council. I have been involved in the process of evaluating and making improvements to policy and procedure through my work with the State Bar, which includes 10 years on the YLD Board (until they finally realized I was no longer, in fact, “young”) and 5 years on the Board of Governors. Last year, I was the chair of the Board of Governors’ Public Policy, wherein I spearheaded our work in reviewing, analyzing the current need for, and revising a quarter of the public policy positions of the State Bar. I was honored to receive a President’s Award from then-President Jim Brennan for this effort.

In my daily professional life, I already work closely with judges, commissioners, attorneys, and other staff members in developing and implementing Milwaukee County policies and procedures, as well as analyzing and overseeing implementation of statutes and court rules. I gained a new perspective on policy and procedure through my work in the Milwaukee Justice Center, as I have been able to see how even the most mundane procedures can have huge effects on litigants, particular poor, unrepresented litigants. I would be able to draw these experience and perspectives on the Judicial Council. It would be my privilege, if elected, to serve.

Practice

Legal Counsel – Courts, Milwaukee County. In this role, I am currently housed in the Probate Division of the courts. Before that, I was the Legal Director of what is currently the Milwaukee Justice Center. Prior to joining Milwaukee County, I was a civil litigator with Piper & Schmidt, Milwaukee.
