The Wisconsin Solo & Small Firm Conference is designed with the unique needs of solo and small firm lawyers in mind. The conference is packed with opportunities for learning, including four preconference sessions, 32 breakout sessions in four tracks, four plenary sessions, and free CLE webcasts after the conference.
You’ll have plenty of opportunity to network with other solo and small-firm practitioners during the networking lunch, the opening reception, Friday night’s hospitality suite, and the WSSFC Amazing Race.
And you’ll have the opportunity to honor colleagues at the presentation of the John Lederer Solo and Small Firm Service Award on Friday.
From Beginning to End – Quality CLE and Engaging Plenaries
This year’s conference is all about the life-cycle of a law firm – how to get started, how to grow it, how to plan for retirement. No matter what phase you’re in, you will find programs that address the major issues you face right now.
Short on Funds but Still Want to Attend? Apply for a Scholarship by Sept. 4.
Solo practice and small-firm attorneys are eligible to apply for a scholarship to the conference.
Preference for the scholarships will be given to solo practitioners and small-firm attorneys who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference due to financial constraints. Scholarship winners are responsible for their own travel and lodging costs, but the section will pay their conference registration fee.
In order to continue to fulfill the mission of the State Bar’s Solo & Small Firm/General Practice Section, scholarship recipients are expected to “pay it forward” through future volunteer service to the section by assisting with conference planning and/or serving on either the section board or a board subcommittee.

Four captivating plenaries pull everyone together to socialize and learn about important topics like communication, the future of solo practice, and emerging technology you don’t want to live without.
Don’t miss the opening plenary, “Golden Nuggets of Communication,” on Thursday with Nancy J. Friedman of Telephone Doctor Customer Service Training, New York. This session will get you thinking as Friedman shares how to handle challenges in your practice and your life with grace, style, and humor.
There’s something for everyone in the four CLE tracks running Thursday through Saturday morning:

Technology Track, including hints on building a client-centered website.
Quality of Life/Ethics Track, which includes a discussion of the latest innovations in law

The conference will be submitted for CLE credit to the Wisconsin and Minnesota Board of Bar Examiners. For applicable programs, Ethics/Professional Responsibility (EPR) credits will also be submitted for approval. Please note: We will not apply for Illinois CLE for this event; however, attendees can self-report.

Join us Thursday morning for preconference sessions to help you develop your professional networking skills, manage your school debt, and avoid the pitfalls that many solo and small-firm practitioners experience during their careers.
Select breakout sessions will be recorded and available via webcast replay in November, December, and January. The first two webcast replay sessions – on Nov. 18 and Dec. 7 – will be available at no cost to conference registrants.
