Sept. 2, 2015 – Engage and learn – and be entertained – at the 10th Annual Wisconsin Solo & Small Firm Conference on Oct. 22 to 24 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
The Wisconsin Solo & Small Firm Conference is designed with the unique needs of solo and small-firm lawyers in mind. The conference is packed with opportunities for learning, including four preconference sessions, 32 breakout sessions in four tracks, four plenary sessions, and free CLE webcasts after the conference.
Review the schedule for full descriptions of the 32 breakout sessions, social events, and the following plenary sessions:
Golden Nuggets of Communications: Learn to handle the challenges you face in your practice and your life with grace, style, and humor. A common sense program on interacting with others.
The Future of the Solo Practice: Discover how to take advantage of emerging technology to gain a competitive advantage, and how to legally and ethically incorporate these new technologies into your practice to serve and protect your clients.
Gizmos, Gadgets, and Widgets: The WSSFC-favorite is back and filled with more gizmos and gadgets you may not have known existed, but now will have to have!
Ethics Game Show: Come watch your favorite Wisconsin ethics celebrities vie for top billing in this entertaining (and credit-compliant) game show.
Short on Funds but Still Want to Attend? Apply for a Scholarship by Sept. 4.
Solo practice and small-firm attorneys are eligible to apply for a scholarship to the conference.
Preference for the scholarships will be given to solo practitioners and small-firm attorneys who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference due to financial constraints. Scholarship winners are responsible for their own travel and lodging costs, but the section will pay their conference registration fee.
In order to continue to fulfill the mission of the State Bar’s Solo & Small Firm/General Practice Section, scholarship recipients are expected to “pay it forward” through future volunteer service to the section by assisting with conference planning and/or serving on either the section board or a board subcommittee.
Interested attorneys should complete the application by Sept. 4, and submit it to grant committee chairperson Roberta A. Heckes by email at truckrlawr@aol.com; by mail at P.O. Box 295, Adell, WI 53001; or by fax at (920) 994-2885.
Recipients will be notified by Sept. 21 so that they have enough time to plan to attend the conference.
For more information about the Solo/Small Firm & General Practice Section, visit the section’s page on WisBar.org.
There’s something for everyone in the four CLE tracks running Thursday through Saturday morning:
Substantive Track, with practical advice to help you with specific areas of practice
Practice Management Track, with advice on running your business
Technology Track, including hints on building a client-centered website.
Quality of Life/Ethics Track, which includes a discussion of the latest innovations in law
More CLE Before and After the Conference
Join us Thursday morning for preconference sessions to help you develop your professional networking skills, manage your school debt, and avoid the pitfalls that many solo and small-firm practitioners experience during their careers.
Select breakout sessions will be recorded and available via webcast replay in November, December, and January. The first two webcast replay sessions – on Nov. 18 and Dec. 7 – will be available at no cost to conference registrants.
