The Benefits of Local and Specialty Bars

You don’t have to be a current bar leader to attend: anyone involved or interested in becoming involved in leading their local bar association is invited to register and attend the conference at no cost. With this conference, the State Bar is providing programs, activities, and information for lawyers to take back to their local and specialty bar associations.

The benefits of being involved in your local and specialty bar associations are many, according to Ben Lane, president of the Chippewa County Bar Association (CBBA). This includes access to information not otherwise available.

“Local bar members are the first to know when circuit courts change rules and procedures, or new events and opportunities are available,” Lane said. “This gives local bar members a leg up on those who aren’t members of the local bar.”

And membership generates opportunities to establish close professional relationships that may not occur with membership in larger organizations. “Not only are CCBA members colleagues, we are also resources for referrals and information, including on changes to local court rules, professional events, CLE opportunities, and social events,” Lane said.
