New Hires
Timothy Barber, Marquette 2003, has been appointed a supreme court commissioner by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Previously, Barber was a Wisconsin assistant attorney general. He replaces Julie Rich, Minnesota 1994, who has retired.
Kenneth G. Calewarts, U.W. 1981, has joined the Law Firm of Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry S.C., Green Bay. Calewarts focuses on corporate law, commercial litigation, and estate planning and advises clients on real estate development and leasing, business entity choice, and corporate restructuring.
Alexis K. Catalano, U.W. 2022, has joined Godfrey, Leibsle, Blackbourn & Howarth S.C., Elkhorn, as an associate, focusing on business and real estate.
Linda C. Emery, Georgetown 1986 cum laude, has joined Michael Best as a partner with the Digital Technology and Data Privacy Team in the Milwaukee office. Emery has experience in data privacy and security programs, data breach incident response, information technology contracting, IOT (the internet of things), and advanced technologies. She guides clients globally through digital transformations and advises regarding machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies. Emery previously was vice president and senior counsel at two Fortune 500 companies.
Alexander M. Glysch, Marquette 2022, has joined Hager, Dewick & Zuengler S.C., Green Bay, as an associate. Glysch’s areas of practice include residential and commercial real estate transactions, business formations and organizations, mergers and acquisitions, trademarks, and general business matters.
Eric R. Hansch, U.W. 2014 cum laude, has been promoted to partner at DeWitt LLP, Madison. Hansch is a member of the business and real estate practice groups. He advises companies, business owners, and executives on matters including entity formation, mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, and contract negotiations and advises commercial real estate clients and lenders on real estate acquisitions and dispositions, development, leasing, financing, zoning, and entitlement approvals.
Stephanie Maser, Hamline 2006, has become a shareholder with Cousineau, Van Bergen, McNee & Malone P.A., Minnetonka, Minn. Maser practices in Minnesota and Wisconsin in retail premises liability, professional liability including litigation and licensure matters, utilities, product liability, cemetery and mortuary law, subrogation, motor vehicle defense, and general civil litigation.
Lane Rideout, Texas 2005, and Jacob Wise, U.W. 2021, have joined Murphy Desmond S.C., Madison. Rideout represents clients in business matters from entity formation to succession planning, as well as employment law and human resources issues. She has experience working with tech start-ups and entrepreneurs in many industries. Wise is a criminal defense attorney serving clients in matters such as operating while intoxicated, drug charge, disorderly conduct, and other felony and misdemeanor offenses. He also assists in civil litigation including personal injury, contract disputes, and other civil cases.
Wendy B. Collins, U.W. 1992, and Colleen E. Fielkow, DePaul 1997 with honors, have joined Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. Collins is with the Corporate Law Practice and a member of the Consumer Finance Team in the Wausau office. She works with finance companies, banks, and trust companies and advises on direct and indirect lending, closed- and open-end contracts, and licensing issues and establishing regulatory compliance programs to avoid risk. She is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager and a Certified Fiduciary & Investment Risk Specialist and has worked in private practice and as in-house counsel for financial institutions.
Fielkow, previously with Reinhart from 2002 to 2015, is with the Litigation Practice in the Milwaukee office. She handles complex commercial litigation, advising on product liability and contract disputes; and class-action and multidistrict litigation, regulatory matters, supply chain risk, indemnification, detailed research and exposure analysis, mediation and arbitration, and intellectual property challenges.
J.P. La Chapelle, Marquette 2008, and Eric Preu, Marquette 2008, have joined Ruder Ware LLSC and will continue to practice at 241 3rd St. South, Wisconsin Rapids. La Chapelle and Preu have focused their practices on real estate, estate planning, and business law.
Rebecca J. Shepro, Marquette 2022, has joined Pruitt, Ekes & Geary S.C., Racine, as an associate. The firm focuses exclusively on representing towns, villages, and cities in all facets of municipal law.
Three attorneys have joined Stafford Rosenbaum LLP in the Madison office. JP Croake, Marquette 2013, is a partner and has experience in representing and counseling clients on establishing and growing their companies and in handling commercial and residential real estate matters. David P. Hollander, U.W. 2017, is a senior associate. He brings his litigation practice into the commercial and municipal realms, focusing on business, insurance, real estate, construction, intellectual property, and local governments. Derek Punches, U.W. 2022, is an associate. His practice focuses on government, administrative, and environmental law.
Five attorneys have been promoted to shareholder with von Briesen & Roper s.c. Ryan P. Heiden, Marquette 2016 magna cum laude, is a member of the Government Law Group in the Milwaukee office. He focuses on school law and public sector labor and employment, including pupil issues, expulsions, and open meetings and public records laws. Trace P. Hummel, Marquette 2016 cum laude, is a member of the Litigation and Risk Management Practice Group and the Construction and Real Estate Sections. He practices in the Milwaukee and Neenah offices and focuses on commercial and contract litigation, including lease disputes, boundary disputes, water litigation, and construction defects.
John P. Pinzl, U.W. 2015, is a member of the Litigation and Risk Management Practice Group in the Madison office. He focuses on insurance coverage and litigation, third-party recovery, medical malpractice, and product liability. Joseph J. Rolling, U.W. 2014, is a member of the Real Estate Section in the Madison office. He focuses on real estate issues involving eminent domain, land use litigation, and property tax assessments. Derek J. Waterstreet, Marquette 2015 magna cum laude, is a member of the Litigation and Risk Management Practice Group in the Milwaukee office. He focuses on commercial, real estate, and construction-related litigation matters, including contract and general business and partnership disputes, landlord-tenant matters, residential and commercial construction, and environmental issues.
Appointments, Elections
The Hon. Jennifer R. Dorow, Regent 1996, Waukesha County Circuit Court, has been selected by fellow chief judges to serve as chair of the Committee of Chief Judges. Dorow replaces the Hon. Gregory B. Huber, U.W. 1981, Marathon County Circuit Court, who has retired.
Benjamin C. Grawe, Vermont 2000, has been elected to the executive committee of DeWitt LLP. Grawe is chair of the firm’s environmental practice group and focuses on environmental compliance and enforcement matters, with an emphasis on complex air, waste, and permitting issues. He also represents clients on remediation projects across the country and has counseled clients on CERCLA and RCRA cleanups from initial site assessment and investigation, including negotiating consent decrees and administrative orders, to the implementation of final remedies and property redevelopment.
Sam Kaufman, Hamline 1994, has been elected and sworn in as county executive for Fond du Lac County. He is a partner in Vande Zande & Kaufman LLP, Waupun, and concentrates in creditor rights, municipal immunity, and construction defect litigation.
Robert J. Heinrich, Minnesota 1998, and Lynn M. Stathas, U.W. 1988, have become chairs of the Banking and Finance and Labor and Employment practices of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c., respectively. Heinrich, based in the Milwaukee office, represents banks and other lenders and private and public borrowers in complex commercial lending arrangements, focusing on commercial lending facilities, structured finance transactions, and Dodd-Frank regulatory compliance matters concerning swaps and derivatives. Heinrich also is chair of the Food and Beverage Law Practice Group. Stathas, based in the Madison office, is a shareholder in the Employee Benefits, Litigation and Labor and Employment practices. She handles discrimination, harassment, noncompete and confidentiality agreements, wrongful discharge, breach of contract, whistleblower, wage and hour, ERISA and FMLA matters, workplace investigations, and more. She also defends class and collective actions. Stathas also is Reinhart’s deputy general counsel.
Robert K. Sholl, Chicago 1981, has become chair of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Labor and Employment Law Section. Sholl is a shareholder in Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c.’s Labor and Employment and Litigation practices and advises and defends employers in labor and employment law matters, including employment discrimination, workplace harassment, non-compete agreements, breach of employment contract lawsuits, unemployment and worker’s compensation hearings, wage and hour disputes (including class actions), and employee health and safety disputes. His traditional labor practice includes collective bargaining, unfair labor practice hearings, and labor arbitrations. He is a coauthor of Wisconsin Employment Law and Hiring and Firing in Wisconsin, both published by the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Awards, Degrees, Honors
Aric Burch, Regent 2005, has been certified by the National Elder Law Foundation as a Certified Elder Law Attorney. The program, the only ABA-approved certification for elder law, was developed to identify lawyers who have the enhanced knowledge, skills, and experience to be properly identified as certified elder law attorneys to the public. Burch is with Ruder Ware LLSC, Eau Claire, and advises clients in use of irrevocable trusts for asset protection, medical assistance eligibility, special needs trusts, estate and trust planning, taxation, powers of attorney, probate, and trust administration.
Pro Bono, Public Service
Charles P. Fischbach, U.W. 1967, Chicago, was a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators Special Committee to formulate a “Strategic Plan to Achieve Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging,” which commits to nurturing an all-inclusive culture within the Academy that encourages the nomination and active participation of a diverse membership across race, ethnicity, sex, disability status, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Foley & Lardner LLP recently marked the one-year anniversary of partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The firm’s 22 U.S. offices have engaged with local clubs on programs and initiatives that are responsive to the clubs’ needs in that community. Foley has made a significant impact in Milwaukee with its annual Street Law Program, which aims to teach high school students from diverse backgrounds about legal professions. Over the past year, Foley and the clubs have hosted more than 120 activities and initiatives, including providing more than 16 scholarships and more than 800 backpacks with school supplies, helping with beautification projects at local clubs, donating sports equipment, holding holiday gift and clothing drives, and mentoring young professionals on resumé writing and job interviewing.
