John D. McNally, Marquette 2018, has joined the civil and fiduciary litigation team at Milwaukee-based Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown LLP. McNally previously was an assistant city attorney in Milwaukee, focusing on business licensing litigation and claims against the city.

Mykayla Dado, U.W. 2022, and Ruth Ross, U.W. 2022, have joined Ruder Ware LLSC. Dado, based in the Eau Claire office, works with clients on matters including family farm transitions, individual estate planning, and business succession planning. Ross, based in the Wausau office, assists clients with creating estate plans.

Michael A. Snider, Marquette 2011, has joined Cramer, Multhauf & Hammes LLP, Waukesha, and handles civil litigation matters, including commercial, real estate, land use, and personal injury cases.

Mergers, Relocations, New Offices

Kevin Dunlevy, North Dakota 1984, has established Dunlevy Law P.A., 120 S. Sixth St., Suite 1515, Minneapolis. Formerly a shareholder in Beisel & Dunlevy PA, Dunlevy concentrates on real estate litigation, real estate transactions, and creditor remedies.

Godfrey & Kahn S.C. has opened an office at 4410 Golf Terrace, Suite 210, Eau Claire. Attorneys based in the new office include Mark Skolos, U.W. 1985, Garret Nix, Marquette 2012, and Dustin Von Ruden, Marquette 2009. Skolos, previously in the Milwaukee office, focuses on complex commercial transactions and land use, development, and energy related matters. Nix and Von Ruden were previously with Von Ruden & Nix S.C. Nix focuses on estate planning and general corporate law. Von Ruden focuses on real estate and general corporate law.

Nick Zimmerman, Mitchell Hamline 2018, has opened Zimmerman Justice LLC, 625 Whitetail Blvd., Suite 120, River Falls, focusing on criminal defense, operating while intoxicated, restraining order, and child in need of protection or services matters.

Appointments, Elections

Lindsey M. Anderson, Marquette 2016 magna cum laude, has been appointed as a citizen representative on the Wisconsin Crime Victims Council by Wisconsin Attorney General Joshua Kaul. Anderson, with the Brookfield office of DeWitt LLP, focuses on family law matters, including separation, divorce, custody and placement, child support, and maintenance. She also handles mediations for represented and self-represented parties and assists with adult and minor guardianships and adoption.

Awards, Degrees, Honors

Gino M. Alia, Marquette 1995, has been named 2022 Advocate of the Year by the Wisconsin Defense Counsel board. The Advocate of the Year Award recognizes the member with the most defense work success of the prior calendar year. Alia, a shareholder at Alia, DuMez & McTernan S.C., Kenosha, has been lead counsel in more than 75 jury trials and hundreds of mediations and arbitrations. His practice areas include personal injury, wrongful death, municipal liability, 42 U.S.C. § 1983 civil rights litigation, and partnership and business litigation.

Stephen Hayes, Illinois 1969, received a Fellow of Distinction Award from the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys. The award is given annually to a Fellow who has made significant contributions to adoption and assisted reproduction law. Hayes also was honored as an Angel in Adoption by the Congressional Coalition of Adoption Institute. At the time of Hayes’ retirement from Grady, Hayes & Neary LLC, Waukesha, he had participated in more than 4,000 family-building cases through adoption and reproduction efforts using surrogacy.

The Hon. Marshall B. Murray, New England 1986, received the Judge Libby Hines Domestic Violence Award from the American Judges Association at the group’s annual conference in Philadelphia in August. Murray, a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge in the Children’s Court Division, was honored for his decades-long commitment to educating judges, nationally and internationally, on issues of family violence, including teen dating violence, intimate partner violence, and child abuse. He is chair of the Wisconsin Judicial Committee on Child Welfare and vice chair of the Wisconsin Commission on Children, Families and the Courts. He has been a lecturer and board member of the National Center on Domestic and Sexual Assault, a national advisor to the Battered Women’s Justice Project, a trustee of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and faculty for the National Judicial Institute on Domestic Violence, Futures Without Violence, and the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women.

O’Leary-Guth Law Office S.C., a trusts, estates, tax, and business law firm with 16 employees, was named Business of the Year by the Mequon-Thiensville Chamber of Commerce. Maureen L. O’Leary-Guth, Marquette 2008, is president and owner of the firm.

Erin Riley, U.W. 2000, has been named a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel. Nominee must have focused on employee benefits law for at least 20 years; show commitment to public awareness and understanding of benefits laws through writing, speaking, public policy analysis, public education, or public service; and provide exceptionally high-quality professional services to clients, the bar, and the public. Riley practices with Keller Rohrback LLP, Seattle, Wash.

Anniversaries, Retirements

Davis & Gelshenen LLP, based in Milwaukee, recently marked its 20th anniversary. The firm, founded by Daniel S. Davis, Kansas 1994, and John J. Gelshenen Jr., Hamline 1997, continues to focus on personal injury matters and civil litigation and has developed a strong niche for defense of real estate professionals. Also with the firm is Leah Michaelson-Link, Marquette 2004.

Pro Bono, Public Service

Habush Habush & Rottier has pledged $100,000 toward the restoration of the historic ceremonial courtroom in the Kenosha County Courthouse. Proposed restoration of the courtroom, which was built in 1925, will help restore its former grandeur and allow the courtroom to be used for historical and architectural tours, educational activities for children, and community events.
