The La Crosse County Bar Association is featured in a TV spot for its efforts to provide food to local school-aged children and their families in the La Crosse area. The TV spot, produced by the State Bar of Wisconsin, aired various times in the La Crosse and Eau Claire viewing areas. The State Bar produced a series of spots that aired statewide featuring ways lawyers are involved in community service work.
Since 2000, the La Crosse County Bar Association (LCBA) contributed $85,710 to Jim's Grocery Bag Fund. This fund honors the memory of James Gokey, a La Crosse attorney who died in 1998. Jim's Grocery Bag provides perpetual funding for 11 La Crosse School District food pantries so many elementary and secondary school children will have food in their homes over weekends and over long school breaks. The funds are raised at our annual golf outing through sponsorships and donations from our members.
Other projects. The LCBA operates a free legal clinic, staffed by volunteer lawyers who answer basic legal questions. The association also donates funds, when available, to non-profit organizations with law-related missions.
