Sept. 4, 2024 – The State Bar of Wisconsin G. Lane Ware Leadership Academy is not your typical CLE program.

It is a comprehensive, interactive leadership development training program that teaches practical leadership skills for Wisconsin lawyers. The Academy takes place over two-day sessions in November, February, and April. It teaches skills for time management, public speaking, conflict resolution, active listening, effective written and oral communication, networking, and more.

Now’s the time to apply: Applications are accepted until Monday, Sept. 16, 2024.

    What the Alumni Say

Russell Karnes of Mallery S.C., Milwaukee, joined the Academy in 2021-22. For him, the Academy “was exactly what I needed to gain confidence in my leadership abilities. It helped me make advancements in my career,” including being elected as District 2 representative to the State Bar Board of Governors in 2023.

Barbra Klug is senior counsel of commercial and real estate with Kohler Company, and is in the Leadership Academy Class of 2023-24. She joined to improve her leadership skills directly in the legal community and indirectly within her organization. “The Academy allowed me to learn from a variety of lawyers across the state, all in different practice areas and with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and goals,” she said.

The Academy’s curriculum creates opportunities to refine skills you already have. “The faculty and my fellow attendees created an environment where we were comfortable to take risks and grow both as individuals and leaders,” said Melissa Spindler of Smith Keane LLP, Hartland, Class of 2018-19.

The Academy also creates a strong connection among class members. “My colleagues were some of the most engaging and thought-provoking people I have been around and I’m a better listener, leader, and attorney because of our various interactions,” said Saveon DuBois Grenell, of Buelow Vetter Buikema Olson & Vliet LLC, Waukesha, Class of 2018-19.
